We are seeking an experienced arborist with a professional attitude to be part of our great Wellington regional team. This is a challenging role, working 40 hours per week (plus a stand by call out roster allowance) and provides first response during storms or significant weather events) and may include live line work around 11KV and 400KV lines.

We're looking for an outstanding individual to provide leadership and management of the tree collections with a particular emphasis on the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, Hagley Park, other garden parks and the inner-city environment. As the City Arborist, under the leadership of the Director of the Botanic Gardens and Garden Parks, you'll develop and implement tree management plans, manage and undertake tree inspections so you can provide technical advice and be a strong advocate for the preservation of the city's tree asset.
In addition to this primary function you'll be the lead advocate for the Parks unit in respect to the wider urban forest by providing advice and technical support where required to the Community Parks, Regional Parks and Parks Planning teams to assist in the development of tree related strategy, policy, asset management and planning documentation.
With a proven ability to work in a team environment and using your exceptional communication skills, you'll manage a consistent direction of tree maintenance programmes and liaise and collaborate with contractors to ensure that customer service requests are correctly managed and assigned.
To be successful in this role you'll bring extensive experience in tree management coupled with a Tertiary qualification in Arboriculture, Forestry, Botany or other relevant horticultural discipline and trained to level 6 Arboriculture. The successful applicant will be encouraged to undertake appropriate research and continuing development to ensure familiarity with modern trends, technologies and best practice.
