Auckland Zoo is widely recognised as one of the most progressive zoos in the world. A winner of national and international environmental-related awards, it is home to 108 different species and over 1000 animals. This role plays a significant part in the delivery of positive welfare outcomes for the Zoo’s animal collection.
In order to provide the very best in animal welfare, there are many species of animals within the zoo that require branches and foliage (Browse) as part of their daily diet and care. As Coordinator, you will be working closely with the wider Animal Care and Conservation and Horticultural Departments and responsible for managing internal supplies together with sourcing a variety of branches and foliage from around Auckland to supplement the dietary and behavioural requirements of the Zoo's animals. You will also be required to assist with diet preparation and store management on an occasional basis as part of the wider team responsibilities.
He kōrero mōu: About you
To be successful in this position you will possess a minimum of 2 years' experience in arboriculture and be knowledgeable on species identification of trees and shrubs and the use of chain and pruning saws. You will have experience in pruning practices and principles as well as the ability to identify toxic trees and shrubs. With great communication skills, you will have the ability to build relationships with a wide network of internal and external stakeholders. You will have strong technical skills, specifically using Microsoft office skills, in order to generate reports and keep accurate, up to date records. A relevant qualification in Horticulture/Arboriculture is advantageous. You will have leadership skills and experience coordinating or managing a team. You must have a valid drivers licence and be comfortable driving loaded utes/small trucks.
