About the Job

Our city is changing and we need skilled people to help make that happen. Working for Porirua City is an opportunity for you to make a real difference in the community. You'll be welcomed into a team that's collaborative, values input and empowers your development. To top it off, the harbour and bush are at your doorstep; it's the perfect place to work.

Porirua City Council is a dynamic place to work where our people are excited about making a positive change for our growing city. This role is responsible for all trees on Council estate throughout the City. You will be the face of the trees and have a rare opportunity to develop and implement a modern arboriculture programme. Porirua has a young to medium-aged tree population, so this is your opportunity to build on what we have, to leave behind your legacy.

You'll outsource our physical work, so your first awesome opportunity is to prepare a contract for tender and procure an NZ Arb approved contractor to maintain our trees.

The Manager Arboriculture will also be responsible for these key deliverables:

  • To provide and promote a modern arboriculture approach to all things trees, contractor management, forward work programming and customer liaison response

  • To ensure we remain compliant with any legislation and safety requirements

  • To ensure contract services are current best practice through continuous business improvement

  • To build excellent working relationships across the business, Council, community groups and other organisations

  • Financial forecasts and reporting, and to ensure work is completed within set budgets

  • To manage our newly protected Notable Trees asset and work to enhance it

We are seeking an effective and dynamic leader to manage our arboricultural asset. You will enjoy working closely with our internal and external stakeholders so excellent relationship management and communication skills are essential.

You'll need to show us that you:

  • Have experience in the arboricultural industry, consulting and managing trees in the urban environment

  • Have a relevant qualification in arboriculture - minimum level 4 advanced or level 5

  • Bring a customer focus to the heart of everything you do

  • Are a self-starter who thinks outside of the box and can work both autonomously and effectively as part of a team contributing to the performance of the Parks and City Services team.

For more information please contact Julian Emeny on 04 238 1756.

Applications close: Tuesday, 21 September 2021.
