About the Job

Permanent Full-Time

Our city has one big backyard and as part of our team of Arborists you will help keep it beautiful.

Waihōpai Invercargill is New Zealand's southernmost city and the heart and hub of Southland. We're known for our lush green spaces like Queens Park, our long summer daylight hours and our local legend Burt Munro. Our city has character, charm and a laidback atmosphere. There's outstanding nature reserves, Ōreti Beach, the Waihōpai River, a lively restaurant scene and a sensible gridded layout with wide streets and a 10-minute drive to work. The Parks division has a wide variety of trees within our many beautiful parks, reserves and playgrounds, as well as our city streets.

We are in a chapter of immense growth, building a vibrant city centre and reinvigorating our culture and spaces, and this is an exciting time to join a Council that is focused on the future of our people and our city.

We are currently seeking an experienced Arborist to join our Parks Operations team. This is a permanent full-time position.

As an experienced Arborist you'll assist with all aspects of tree and park maintenance, including pruning, shaping, removal and thinning work in and around Invercargill for a variety of both internal and external clients. You will also provide a high standard of informative and helpful advice to clients promoting future tree health in a prompt and professional manner.

In this position you will be able to operate the tools and equipment provided safely and efficiently following all relevant safety procedures. You will actively promote best practice health, safety and environmental procedures to ensure all employees, contractors, visitors and members of the public are in a safe and healthy environment. This includes actively participating in and attending health and safety discussions and meetings.

The successful candidate will hold a formal qualification in arboriculture, a full NZ drivers licence (class 1 and 2), a heavy traffic licence and three to five years demonstrated experience in the Arboriculture industry. Rural fire fighting is an area that Parks Operations employees may be involved in, so experience or an interest in this area would be highly regarded.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a passionate and enthusiastic team. If your skills and experience match and you are looking for an opportunity where you will not only contribute to the improvement of our region but also make a real-life difference to the community, then apply today!

At Invercargill City Council we pride ourselves on our values - positivity, respect, responsibility and above and beyond. Finding the right fit for our team is really important to us and we work hard to provide an environment reflective of these values.

This is a full-time posiiton with an indicative salary range of $57,000 to $69,000 gross per annum dependent on skillsand experience.
