The Invercargill City Council are currently seeking a Senior Arborist to join our Parks Operations team.
In this role you will be responsible for overseeing the daily and weekly operations of our arborist crews to ensure they receive the guidance, programmes and support to undertake arboriculture maintenance works as per our maintenance programme on all our street and park trees within Invercargill and surrounding areas. This includes making sound decisions to ensure the safety of the public and the Council regarding tree matters, and providing technical advice and reporting to your team leader as required.
You will also oversee the daily/weekly maintenance of our plant to ensure it receives the proper care and attention so that we do not have breakdowns that affect production.
You will provide training and support on correct arboricultural techniques and practices to the Arborist team to ensure that safety is adhered to in order to protect the public, other team members, and yourself, therefore a commitment to Health and Safety is essential.
You will have a qualification in NZ Certificate in Horticulture Services (Arboriculture) (Level 3), but preferred is a NZ Certificate in Horticulture Services (Arboriculture) (Level 4).

Requirements for this position:
NZ Certificate in Horticulture (Arboriculture) (Level 3)
A background in the Arboriculture industry, ideally having stepped up from the tools to supervisory roles.
3 - 5 years demonstrated relevant practical experience.
Formal qualification in arboriculture.
Current full NZ Drivers Licence - Class 1 and 2.
Heavy Traffic Licence.
Rural fire fighting is an area that Parks Operations employees may be involved in, so experience or an interest in this area would be highly regarded.
